It’s time for a brand new edition of Mopinion’s Employee in the Spotlight! This blog series gives you an inside look into the Mopinion team and who we really are. Last month we introduced Rudo, one of our newest Customer Success Managers. And now we want to get you acquainted with one of our newest Development stars, our Python Developer José María Vázquez Jiménez.
Meet Jose. Jose joined the Mopinion team just four short months ago. Developing the new notification system within the Mopinion software is one of the things he’s responsible for, but when he’s not busy optimising the backend of our platform, you can find him reading, working out or just hanging around with friends.
Let’s see how Jose likes working at Mopinion so far…
What does your position at Mopinion entail?
“I work on backend development. I’m mainly busy developing the notification system, the translation module and the payment options within our software.”
What initially drew you to Mopinion?
“During my meeting with the CMO I was really impressed with the technology Mopinion uses for its platform, which – in turn – really drew me to the company.”
What does a typical work day look like for you?
“After a good cup of coffee I typically dive into Jira. Every day I check the issues I need to resolve, and then I’ll usually discuss those issues with the team to get their input and just to see what they are up to, which I really like.”
What is your favorite part about working at Mopinion?
“I’d say the freedom we get within design and development. At Mopinion we’re given the opportunity to make our own decisions. Of course there are design requirements, but other than that I was able to – for example – build and implement the notification system to the best of my knowledge.”
What are the biggest challenges you face in your job?
“Definitely the technical challenges. Sometimes it’s difficult to work with the system, because you have to deal with the legacy over time.”
What is your proudest moment at Mopinion?
“So far I have been busy with the latest (and coolest) features like the translator and the new notification system.”

What do you like to do in your free time?
“Reading, fitness, football and hanging out with friends.”
What is your guilty pleasure?
“Penny waffles!! And yes, I can eat a whole package in one day.”
He also shares that he has the habit of adding mayonnaise to whatever he eats. Sounds like he’s becoming a true Dutchman…
Who inspires you?
“My father. He’s a hard worker and I respect the way he lives and his work ethic. Unfortunately due to corona I’m not able to go to Spain to visit, but hopefully I can go somewhere in the summer.”
What is one thing you can’t live without?
“Books. I like to read philosophical books, mathematics books and literature. I try to read for two hours each day and I think Fjodor Dostojevski is a great writer.”

“Many times in your life you will not be happy … You must have something significant, that is the ship that will take you through the storm.”

What is your biggest fear?
“Spiders.”
Where do you see yourself in five years?
“Software architecture. And I would like to travel some more. There are still places in South America and Africa I would really like to visit.”
What is something that not many people know about you?
“Ever since I was 7 years old I have been doing fencing. I even used to play in a competition, only nowadays just for fun. And I also played water polo, so I guess you could say I’m actually quite an athletic person.”
