Know ye, That Napoleon B. Horne a Private of Captain William E. Oakes Company (C)
Second Regiment of Texas Cavalry Volunteers, who was enrolled on the Twenty-fifth
day of March one thousand eight hundred and sixty-five to serve one year or
during the war, is hereby Discharged from the service of the United States this
Tenth day of November, 1865, at Brownsville, Texas by reason of Disolvement
of Organization SC No 41 dated Hdqrs Galveston Tex Sept 29th 65
(No objection to his being re-enlisted is known to exist)
Said Napoleon B. Horne was born in McMinn Co. in the State of Tennessee, is
Thirty Eight years of age, five feet Eight inches high, Rudy complexion, Hazel
eyes, Black hair, and by occupation when enrolled, a Farmer.
Given at Brownsville Tex this Tenth day of November 1865.

To aid this Bureau in preventing anyone falsely impersonating you, or otherwise
committing fraud in your name, or on account of your service, you are required to
answer fully the questions enumerated below.

3. When did you enlist? Answer: March 25 1865

Declaration for Service-Age Pension.
State of Texas

On this 6 day of March, A.D., one thousand nine hundred and seven, personally
appeared before me, J.W. Burnes of the Town of McGregor a Notary Public within
and for the County and State aforesaid Napoleon B. Horne, aged 79 years, a
resident of Six miles S.E. of McGregor, County of McLennan, State of Texas, who
being duly sworn according to law, declares that he is the identical
Napoleon B. Horne who served under the name Napoleon B. Horne and who was
enrolled on the 25 day of March 1865, in Company C of the 2 regiment of Texas
Cav commanded by Capt William E. Oakes, and was honorably discharged at
Brownsville Texas, on or about the 10 day of November, 1865. That his personal
description at enlistment was as follows: Age 37 years; height, 5 feet 8 inches;
complexion Rudy; hair Black; eyes Hazel. That he makes this declaration for the purpose
of being placed on the pension roll of the United States, under the Act of Congress,
approved February 6, 1907, "Granting pensions to certain enlisted men,
soldiers and officers, who served in the Civil War and the War with Mexico." That
he is a pensioner of the United States, enrolled at the Knoxville Pension
Agency, at the rate of 12.00 dollars per month; Certificate No. 1107.366. That he is
over the age of 75 years, being born at Athens Tenn on, or about, the 3rd day
of February, 1928. That he has never been employed in the military or naval
service other that stated above.
That he hereby appoints A.J. Hunter, of Bolivar, Mo., his true and lawful attorney,
to prosecute his claim. No attorney fees to be paid.
That his postoffice address is McGregor, County of McLennan, State of Texas.

On this day personally appeared Mrs. Rachel C. Horne, who after being
duly sworn by me deposes and says: I am the widow of the late Napoleon B. Horne,
who died in McLennan County, Texas, March 4, 1910, and that there is no public
record of his death. He died on the 4th day of March, 1910 and the attending
physician was Dr. C.J. Crow, of Moody, McLennan County, Texas. Witness my hand this
the 29th day of June, 1910.

that he died on the 4th day of March, 1910.

of marriage license to N B Horne and Caroline Shamblin, as same appears of
record in Marriage record Vol 1, page 19, on of the Marriage records of said
County.
In testimony whereof and to certify which I hereunto affix my official seal
and signature at my office in Waco this 30th day of June A D 1910.

Declaration for Widow's Pension
State of Texas
County of McLennan
On this 30th day of May, A.D. one thousand nine hundred and ten personally
appeared before me, a Notary Public within and for the county and State aforesaid,
Rachel Caroline Horne, aged 70 years, a resident of near Moody, county of
McLennan, State of Texas, who, being duly sworn according to law, makes the
following declaration in order to obtain pension under the provisions of the Act
of Congress approved April 10, 1908.
That she is the widow of Napolian B. Horne, who was enrolled under the name of
Napolian B. Horne, at Point Isbell, on the 25th day of February, 1865, as a
private in Company "C" Second Texas Regiment, and was honorably discharged Nov.
10th, 1865, having served ninety days or more during the late civil war.
That he was not in the military or naval service of the United States otherwise
that as stated above.
That she was married under the name of Miss Rachel Caroline Shamblin to said
soldier at Perry P.O. (now Moody) Tex, on the 1st day of April, 1858, by Rev.
John McClain; that there was no legal barrier to the marriage; that she had not been
previously married; that the soldier had not been previously married.
That the said soldier died March 4th, 1910, at his home near Moody, Texas;
that she was not divorced from him, and that she has not remarried since his death.
That the said soldier left the following named children who are now living and under
sixteen years of age, to wit:
Left 12 children but none under 16 years of age. All married and over 16 years of age.
That she has not heretofore applied for pension.
That her post-office address is Moody, county of McLennan, State of Texas.

Also appeared George W. McNeil, residing in Moody, Texas, and J. Ivy McClain, residing
in Moody, Texas, persons whom I certify to be respectable and entitled to credit,
and who, being by me duly sworn, say they were present and saw Rachel Caroline Horne,
the claimant, sign her name (or make her mark) to the foregoing declaration; that
they have every reason to believe, from the appearance of said claimant and their
acquaintance with her of 55 years and 30 years, respectively, that she is the
identical person she represents herself to be, and that they have no interest in
the prosecution of this claim.
